DIY Cat Furniture

Do you have a kitty? One easy way to make Fluffy comfortable and happy is by providing her with furniture that she doesn’t have to share with her humans. You can of course buy cat furniture, but you can also make your own. Here, a vet Farmers Branch, TX vet lists some great DIY kitty furniture options.

Cat Tower

Cat towers offer Fluffy a good vantage point, a napping spot, a scratching post, and a jungle gym. To make your kitty her own tower, get an old stepladder, and add smooth planks to the steps. This also works with bookshelves and metal storage racks. Or, you can start from scratch, and build the tower from lumber or PVC pipe. When you’re done, wrap the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope, and put it by a window with a good view.

Kitty Castle

Fluffy’s box obsession is one of her cutest quirks. Why not make your kitty a box castle? If you want to keep it simple, just attach a few boxes together and cut ‘doors’ between them. You can also go all-out and add things like towers, turrets, balconies, and bridges.

Scratching Board

Cats have a strong instinctive need to take care of their claws. To make your furball a scratching board, just attach a small carpet square to a wooden board. Secure it to the wall, just above Fluffy’s head. Voila!

Pet Tent

Many kitties like small, enclosed spaces, as they feel safe and secure in them. You can make Fluffy a cute pet tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Furball Hammock

To make a hammock for your feline friend, you’ll need a table or end table with four legs, and a piece of material. Measure the tabletop, and then cut the material so that it’s just a little smaller than the table. Use Velcro or twine to attach the corners of the fabric to the table legs. Done!

Window Seat

Kitties love looking out windows, and watching birds and squirrels. Make your feline buddy a cute window seat by adding a smooth plank or board to your windowsill to widen it out. For extra purrs, attach a comfy kitty bed using Velcro or double-sided tape.
