Things Your Dog is Thankful For

Thanksgiving is almost here! Although that seasonal food is great, it’s also important to reflect on the things we are thankful for. What about Fido? If he could list the things he appreciates, what would be on it? A North Dallas, TX vet makes a few educated guesses below.

Comfy Beds

Fido certainly is adorable when he’s dreaming about chasing squirrels. Make sure your canine buddy has a good bed to snuggle up on. A bed would make a great holiday gift for your pup!

Belly Rubs

That happy look Fido gets when someone is scratching his furry tummy is super cute! Ear scritches are also very popular with our four-legged pals. Pay lots of attention to your pooch! Remember, time spent with dogs is never wasted.

Treats are a surefire way to get your furry friend’s tail wagging. They’re also a great training aid, and can help you bond with your pup. Fido definitely deserves a special Thanksgiving snack. Just be careful what you offer him. Many popular foods are dangerous to Man’s Best Friend! Plain, cooked meat, fish, or poultry, without the skin, bones, or fat, is fine. Never give your dog garlic, onions, scallions, or chives; meat on the bone; grapes, currants, or raisins; alcohol; caffeine; nuts; pitted fruit; raw meat, dough, or yeast; or anything containing xylitol.

Does your canine friend sometimes run up to you holding his favorite toy in the hopes that you’ll play with him? This is one of Fido’s most adorable quirks! Toys aren’t just fun for dogs, though. Make sure your pet is getting enough activity, entertainment, and stimulation. This is very important to his health and his well-being. Give your pooch a new toy as a special Thanksgiving treat.

Walks are of course necessary for sanitary reasons. They also give your canine pal a much-needed change of scenery, and offer him beneficial mental stimulation. Even if you have a yard for your pooch to play in, he’ll still benefit from those daily strolls. Take Fido for a long walk before your guests arrive!

Fido is an extremely loyal and loving pet, and really just wants to hang out with you. Your furry companion is definitely grateful for the love and care you give him.
